Fall Colors: Fashion, Foliage and Furniture

Fall FoliageNow that fall has officially “fallen,” there’s plenty of talk about color on the web. New York has a fall foliage report with current information on the current state of fall colors throughout the state.

Always thinking ahead, the folks at Pantone published their fall fashion color report as early as February of this year.

While the trees and the clothes within your wardrobe may change more often than the furniture in your home, Autumn is the time of year when more people are thinking about the home as Summer vacations are over and cooler temperatures lead people spending more time inside the home (at least here in the northern latitudes).

While more traditional wood tones are almost always a “safe” choice, more consumers are making bolder choices such as black or white as modern styles become more popular.

Color for Interior Decorating

If you’re painting, redecorating or refurnishing this year, don’t underestimate the effects of color on mood. One common technique used by interior designers is to paint most of a room in a neutral hue except for one “accent wall,” which serves to bring a feeling of energy to the room.

This color of the accent wall is usually then reflected in the color of some of the room’s decor. It’s easy (with some searching of course, but for some that’s the fun part!) to find or create art, silk flowers or other accent pieces of a similar color to tie the theme together.

Don’t Overlook Color for Furniture

Marco Entertainment Center in Lagoon ColorIt’s often more difficult with furniture, however. That’s where we step in to help. The Marco Entertainment Center above is pictured with colored glass fronts in a color we call Lagoon. This is actually a similar color to one of those listed in Pantone’s color report, Ultramarine Green.

Immediately below is shown our Bingham Wall Unit in Wildflower Blue, followed by the Liza TV Stand in French Lilac.

Go ahead and click on any of them to find out more and see all the beautiful color and finish choices that are available.

These are some examples of our furniture in some of our favorite colors, but we actually are able to manufacture any piece of our bedroom or living room furniture in any of 24 colors of glass fronts, in addition to black, white and a wide variety of wood tones ranging from very light to very dark.

6 Easy Steps To Order Custom Furniture

Customizable FurnitureWe’ve all had that moment walking through a home store, spotting a piece of furniture and saying, “I like that, but if it came in black I would like it so much better.” In the end, you might end up buying a piece that doesn’t quite fit your dream or coming home with no furniture at all.

The alternative to this compromise is — you guessed it — custom furniture!

The decision to go custom can be a daunting one if you’ve never ordered custom furniture before. The idea of starting from scratch and working with a designer to bring your vision out of your head into reality sounds tough!

At Contempo Space, we solve this problem by specializing in customizable furniture pieces. Standard units are combined to create a piece of furniture that fits your needs and your style.

Customers start by looking at existing configurations. Wardrobes and entertainment centers are popular choices right now.

1. Matte, Mirror or Glass?

The fronts of most of our contemporary furniture lines can be chosen from the following:

Matte finishes include 11 choices of light wood, dark wood, black, white and more.

Glossy black or white always look sharp on modern furniture.

Mirrored fronts are unique, and often hard to find elsewhere. Mirrored front wardrobes are especially popular because they not only help a room really look its best, but they also eliminate the need for another mirror in the bedroom.

Colored glass fronts are available in 24 colors at the time of this writing. These exclusive colors allow the custom furniture shopper to match nearly any decor.

2. What’s Your Favorite Color?

Once your preferred material has been chosen, you get to decide a color. Some customers match their new furniture to what they already have, while others prefer to get something completely different for contrast.

3. Mix or Match?

Contempo Space furniture doesn’t have to be the same color all the way around.

The case (sides) can be one finish, and the front can be something entirely different.

4. Furniture Handles

Some of our furniture doesn’t use handles, but for the pieces that do there are over a dozen styles to choose from. Many handles are available in chrome or brass.

This extra option helps customers come home with a truly unique piece of furniture!

5. Interior Customization

Need more shelves or an extra hangrod? No problem. There’s even an array of add-on accessories to choose from for the wardrobes.

6. Do You Need Fully Custom?

At Contempo Space we are unique in that our headquarters is a factory showroom. This means that the people who make the furniture are at the same location as the design consultants.

So if your space or decor needs something special, it’s no problem. Your designer can go back to the factory and hand a drawing to the guys who will be building your furniture, and you’ll get what you need.

Find Your Decorating Style

Photographer: Pieter Estersohn, Designer: Nate Berkus

When decorating your home, experts say use pieces that match your style. Now, this is great advice. Creating a space that reflects your style is important in making a space into your space. But the big question many of us have is, how do I know, what my style
is?

Recently, I saw a home design show featuring Nate Berkus. Nate was designing his New York City apartment. The focus of this renovation was a living room with statement bookcases. Nate was excited about this space because, to him, home is where the books are. This got me thinking, what is the one thing I can’t live without? What makes an
apartment into my apartment? And then I realized, my answer to this question would define my style.

I, like Nate, love books. I keep several by my bed. This led me to choose a nightstand with a shelf so I can store them all.

So now, you are probably thinking, just because I like something, how does that make my style? Here are a few examples.

- Do you like art? Do you like to display it in your space?

A low, long buffet or other set of
drawers can maximize storage space and
wall space.

- Are you a collector?

Would you like to have closed storage space to keep your stuff and display space to show off your collection? Try a wall unit that incorporates both! It can allow you to make your collection a focal point while concealing your other stuff

Share with us any ideas you have for deciding your style.

Find Your Style with Custom Furniture

Find your styleStyle is more than just a word.  It’s a concept that encompasses everything having to do with a person’s outward exertion of their personality, their habits, their hobbies and pretty much everything that makes them unique.

We try to wrap the word ‘style’ in limits by categorizing it – haute, contemporary, traditional, modern, colonial – but the truth of what style actually is goes far beyond anything that our limited vocabulary might be able to explain away.

Style is also something functional.  Good style works for you.  Style shouldn’t be difficult or inconvenient, and it shouldn’t be predetermined by a label.   It should instead be simply natural, flowing with grace and ease like it was never even considered.

That’s why ultimately style has to be custom.  And that’s what we offer, custom style made just for you.  Your style might not be in a showroom – and that’s okay.  Because we’re here to make furniture with a custom style created just for you.

At Contempo Space we build freestanding and built-in modern furniture, tailored to the style and the lifestyle of every individual who places an order with us.  With our wide variety of finish and storage options, we’ll work with you to make sure your home furniture is exactly you.

You have to find your style.  Contempo Space will help show you the way.
