“Just to say a big thank you… We’re very happy with the closets and I feel a million times better now I’ve moved all my stuff over to create more space.

Happy holidays!”

Aventa Collection – New Bedroom TV Furniture Includes Wardrobe Storage

Aventa Wardrobe Wall Unit in White

One of our favorite things about being furniture designers is the opportunity to create things that people really need, but don’t always exist in the marketplace.

The new Aventa Collection is our most recent example of this. While customers have been enjoying our modern entertainment centers and wardrobe closets individually for a long while, until now when customers wanted to combine wardrobe storage and TV display furniture in their bedrooms the only choice was to get quoted for a full custom piece.

As far as we’ve been able to tell, that was true everywhere. Even though it’s very common for people to have a television and clothes in their bedroom (you probably already knew that), many customers have attempted to shop around for comparable furniture and reported an inability to find any furniture designed to hold both without starting a custom design from scratch… until now.

Bedroom Furniture Has Evolved Forever

Our new Aventa Collection is so unlike anything that exists in the marketplace, we must confess it was a bit challenging to come up with a name for it.

We finally decided to call them bedroom wall units. While any entertainment wall unit could be used in the bedroom, entertainment furniture usually has a focus on elements like open display space and dedicated media and electronics areas.

This makes sense for a living room or other common space used for entertaining, but most people don’t need that in their bedrooms. It’s a far better use of bedroom space to combine the television with dedicated wardrobe storage space like hanging cabinets and armoire drawers.

As a result of these simple observations the bedroom wall unit was born, right here in New Jersey, a few miles across the Hudson from downtown NYC.

Custom is Still King

While the release of the Aventa wardrobe walls makes this furniture more affordable, we haven’t strayed from our roots of custom furniture design.

Like all of our furniture, even the “standard” units are customizable, with a few hundred combinations of finishes available and a number of handle choices. Finishes include black, white, mirrored, about a dozen wood finishes, and about two dozen colors of glass fronts.

Of course, our design consultants are always happy to do full custom designs. Do go ahead and give us a call at 888-266-1280 and give us an excuse to put pencil to paper!

Sebastian Wall Unit in Black

Black Wall Unit - Sebastian Wall Unit

Here are a couple photos of a recent delivery and setup we did in a customer’s home.

The Sebastian Wall Unit, like all of our entertainment furniture, is available in just about any combination of colors and wood tones imaginable. This one is shown in our exclusive ash matte finish with black fronts.

The flat screen television is of some typical size. You can see in the photo below that this wall unit is equally appropriate for TV’s quite a bit larger or smaller than this one.

Plenty of Storage in the Living Room – Finally!

When looking at the Sebastian, note that each front face conceals some kind of extra storage for your living room or TV room.

At the bottom are large storage drawers, while the left and right sides are tall doors, the full height of the unit, with adjustable shelves inside.

Above the TV are storage spaces with doors that open upward on pneumatic hinges. It’s a nice touch not generally seen on other entertainment furniture.

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday – What Does it all Mean?

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber MondayWe’ve all heard about Black Friday, the infamous start of the holiday shopping season. But how did we end up with Cyber Monday and Small Business Saturday?

The term Black Friday seems to have actually gotten its start in Philadelphia in the 1960′s, where automotive, pedestrian and indoor traffic caused by huge numbers of shoppers made it a rough day for police officers and cab drivers, who gave the Friday after Thanksgiving the name many know it by today.

Later this relatively negative sounding origin would be softened by the spreading of the idea that accounting practices relating black ink to profits led to the Black Friday moniker, as the profitable holiday shopping season kept retailers “in the black.” However, there appears to be no evidence of this idea surfacing until sometime in the 1980′s.

Recent years have seen the largest retailers gaining the most benefit from the Black Friday craze, as Black Friday Deals from the likes of Best Buy, Target and Wal Mart compete with one another for consumer attention and dollars.

Cyber Monday – A Self Fulfilling Prophecy

Unlike Black Friday, which naturally became a day for many to start their holiday shopping since they had they day off from work, there is evidence that Cyber Monday started out as a creative marketing myth.

A trade association for online retailers invented the term “Cyber Monday” in 2005, in order to “create some consumer excitement.”

The marketing implied that the Monday after Thanksgiving had become remarkable in the amount of online purchases made.

At the time, statistics showed that the Monday after Thanksgiving actually ranked 12th for online spending, not even in the top 1/3 of the 32 day long shopping season.

Admittedly, the campaign turned out to be brilliantly effective in its ability to affect the behavior of consumers, as Cyber Monday 2011 was a record breaker.

Small Business Saturday – A Shopping Day Worth Supporting

Small Business SaturdaySmall Business Saturday is a different kind of effort, for which American Express gets the credit.

Small Business Saturday was officially kicked off in 2010, when American Express used radio, television and social media to successfully gain huge support for a day of “supporting small businesses and all they do for their communities.”

The movement met with continued success for 2011, when AMEX approximates that 103 million Americans shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday and generated a 23% increase in AMEX transactions.

Save $25 Shopping on Small Business Saturday

How did this new shopping day get so successful so quickly? By offering rewards for American Express cardholders who shopped at small businesses.

With large national and international retailers grabbing more and more of shoppers’ attention each year with shopping deals and promotions, AMEX decided to go with a proven technique and reward cardholders a $25 credit on statements if they shop at qualifying small businesses on Saturday.

Small business owners across the country have been supportive of and thankful for the initiative, no pun intended.

What Counts as a Small Business for Small Business Saturday?

There’s some fine print (for example, corporate and prepaid cards are ineligible), but some eligibility requirements from the Small Business Saturday Homepage include that an eligible small business must:

  • Be locally owned
  • Have under $10 million annual revenue
  • Not be part of a franchise with over 100 stores
  • Not be a government, nonprofit, political or religious organization
  • Not promote certain products including pharmaceuticals, gambling or firearms

Contempo Space is indeed a qualifying American Express Card accepting small merchant.

This means that a, American Express purchase in-store, by phone or online at contempospace.com will not only support the kind of service and quality that only an American shop with American made products can offer, but you can also save 25 bucks!

Please note that American Express offers only a single $25 credit, not a credit for each purchase. Their terms and conditions are here. We cannot answer specific questions about the American Express offer or negotiate the terms of the offer on a customer’s behalf.
